Although sales is only part of my function as an Account Manager (AM) I agree with most of the above, except for the fact that "52% of salespeople feel they do not receive sufficient training". This is absurd. Sales people should take charge of their own destiny and take the necessary steps in order for them to keep growing. When I started out as an Account Executive many years ago, I invested in a shipload of audio training that I could repeatedly listen to while being on the road. This "Automobile University" provided excellent training and relieved stress at the same time. Although these audio CD's cost a lot of money, I still consider them an excellent investment in my future and career. After working at different agencies I finally found an employer that does encourage extra education but those that didn't never kept me from studying. I consider traveling as a constant opportunity to learn for it is an endless reservoir of "time", which is a scarce commodity for most of us.
